Mikel Obi Suspended for Three Games, Fined £60,000
John Mikel Obi the Chelsea midfielder, has been fined £60,000 and a three-match ban, for his behaviour after Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester United in October.
After Mikel was told by his team mates that the official used racist language on him. The Nigerian John Mikel Obi entered Mark Clattenburg’s room after the match and confronted the referee. The allegations have been proven to be false.
In a statement on the FA website. “The Regulatory Commission’s independent chairman Christopher Quinlan QC emphasised that the Independent Regulatory Commission accepted, as did The FA, that at the time he threatened the referee the player genuinely believed that the referee had racially abused him,”
So the fine and the three match ban is just to be lenient on the Chelsea midfielder.
