Fresh
reports coming from the Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has
revealed that the governor lost his niece in the auto crash that claimed the
lives of eight students of Itori Comprehensive High School, on Wednesday
afternoon.
Governor Amosun said this during his visit to the
scene of the accident on Thursday, describing it as unfortunate.
The governor was accompanied to the scene by the
Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Lagos and Ogun
states, Mamman Tsafe; state commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye and the
chairman, Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state, Dele Soluade.
According to Governor Amosun, the daughter of
his blood sister was one of the victims of the incident. He assured the
families of government’s support in their moment of grief and directed that the
survivors, who were on admission at the General Hospital, Itori, be transferred
to Abeokuta for proper medical care.
Amosun then stressed the need for pedestrian
bridges to be constructed in the state to forestall similar occurrences.
Meanwhile, vehicular activities were brought to a
halt for several hours, as thousands of commuters and motorists were stranded
on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, as protesters barricaded the highway,
protesting against the killing of secondary school students.
