Ex-Senate President, Wabara, To Face Corruption Trial

The former Nigerian Senate President is accused of receiving N55 million bribe.
The Supreme Court on Friday ordered former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, to face a N55 million corruption charge at a Federal High Court, setting aside an Appeal court’s ruling that quashed the charges.

Mr. Wabara is accused of receiving N55 million from a former Minister of Education, Fabian Osuji, to pass the ministry’s budget in 2005.
Mr. Wabara was charged alongside four others.
The former senate president denied the charges brought against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC.
The case reached the Supreme Court after the allegations were dismissed by the Court of Appeal in a prolonged trial lasting more than seven years.
In a unanimous judgement read by lead judge, Musa Muhammad, on Friday, the apex court set aside the judgement of the Court of Appeal.
More details later.
