The websites of four Nigerian government institutions
including that of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were hacked last
Friday by a group called PakCyberEaglez, Techloy has learnt.
The
affected sites are: Govt of Nigeria National Research Institute for
Chemical Technology, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Malaria
Control Programme Nigeria Govt, Govt of National Planning Commission.
While
there is no official reason revealed behind the cyber attacks, sources
say that PCE's target sites appear to be random and simply take
advantage of security lapses on most websites they attack.
As at
the time of writing this post, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website
showed an account suspended page as well as that of the National
Research Institute for Chemical Technology and National Malaria Control
Programme, which were among the four websites hacked.
However, the website of the National Planning Commission appears to have been restored after the attack over the weekend.
In
March alone, the hackers claim to have attacked more than 200 sites in
India alone and nearly 180 in Egypt alone, according to their Facebook
page.
