Mr. Adebolajo, 28, and another person, believed to also be a British-Nigerian, attacked a man near a military barrack in Woolwich South East London on Wednesday killing him. They were shouting Allahu Akbar (God is great) while they carried out the attack, witnesses said.
The two attackers were later shot and taken to the hospital for treatment and further investigations. They did not resist arrest or attempt to escape after the crime, asking people to take their photographs, witnesses told British authorities.
Sources told the BBC that Mr. Adebolajo, a Briton of Nigerian descent, comes from a devout Christian family but took up Islam after leaving college in 2001.
He was described as “bright and witty” when he was at college, the BBC said.
Sources at the SSS said the agency, which had partnered with the London Metropolitan Police and other British Agencies in the past, received the request on Mr. Adebolajo on Thursday morning.
Although, the SSS spokesperson, Marilyn Ogar, said she was not aware of any request by the British security agencies, PREMIUM TIMES learnt that the agency has since commenced its own part of the task.
Investigations have commenced in the U.K. to ascertain the motives behind the attack, and where the assailants were radicalised.
The BBC also reports that the attackers had featured in ‘several investigations’ by British police in the past.
The attack has already been condemned by the British Prime Minister, David Cameron; the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson; and others.
Mr. Cameron said the attackers, and not Islam, would be held responsible for their crime, saying “nothing in Islam justifies this dreadful attack.”
Mr. Johnson, who visited the scene of the attack also the attackers “will be brought speedily to justice”; and that Islam or the British foreign policy should not be blamed for the incident as the attackers acted on their own.
